What are personal AI assistants?
AI personal assistants, you know that thing that answers your questions and assists with minor tasks whenever you say ‘Alexa’, ‘Hey Google’, or ‘Siri’. They’ve integrated into our daily lives, and for the most part, wouldn’t want to get rid of them.
Personal Assistants are incredibly handy, especially when we have a quick question for Google. They can help us find the best service for something in our area, take down notes, and even schedule appointments in some cases. Alexa will even help us buy things! These services are great, and have made our busy lives a little easier to manage. Yet, so many of us can’t shake the feeling that they are all listening… all the time, and not just listening for us to beckon them!

Why Current AI Assistants Suck
There is a common skepticism about companies behind these AI Assistants that have conveniently made themselves too beneficial not to use. Rightfully so. Companies exist to make money, and money is made from purchases on products and use of services. These Assistants, while made to help make our lives more manageable, have also given companies a seat at the table to know exactly what we need, and exactly how they can convince us we need their things.
Ultimately, this is a tradeoff many of us make for the very helpful features that these Assistants offer, but what if we could have an Assistant without the drawbacks?

A Better AI Assistant
Probably the biggest concern most people have over an ‘always listening’ Personal Assistant is privacy. Other major concerns may revolve around wanting to be able to control what suggestions it is able to make regarding purchases, assurance of security over personal information, and control over what the Assistant has access to. Sounds great, but really, how could we trust anything that a company makes?
When Will Better AI Assistants be Realized?
If you are skeptical about any company making an AI Personal Assistant ‘just for you’, you’d be wise to question it. However, what if I told you that there is a way for you to have a personal AI Assistant that is tailored to your needs only? Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, Deocracy is working on making this Assistant a reality. It’s a lot to take on. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
We are currently working on an app that will deliver news to you, we call it NewsBuddy AI. Using AI, NewsBuddy will be able to translate into any language. So if you don’t speak French for example, but you want to hear news from French speaking sources, now you can listen to it in your native language! NewsBuddy also will deliver news to you, just the facts. So much of the news today is laced with propaganda and the narratives of others, often with an unstated agenda. NewsBuddy will filter out all the biased opinions, emotional slants, and give you just the events.
This is the first step in building a comprehensive Personal Assistant that will operate for you, and you alone. We are rapidly developing an alpha version of NewsBuddy AI, and in the near future you’ll be able to see for yourself some of the things it is able to do!
